In progress projects

Last update: 05-01-2015

Here you can see my work when it’s still in progress 🙂

When I do a special saddle, a lot of work often goes into the making/resculpting of the tree. The same goes for this ladies astride saddle from the 1920’s, it’s a bit of a cross between an english saddle and a barrel race saddle, and the closest tree was a western saddle tree. The left pic shows the original tree, the right pic is the same tree after resculpting it.

The resulpting might seem unimportant, but for the endresult it’s very important, and it will help to make the saddle really look the part, instead of look like some western saddle with big flaps, lol.

The saddle is still in progress, but this is what I’ve got so far:

My current project is a portuguese tack set for Heli! Recently I’ve found out that portuguese tack can also be lined with a different colour of leather, so of course I jumped to the chance and applied that new look to this set! The set is lined with rust coloured leather, which will fit very well with the saddle seat, which will have a simular colour.
I’m having a bit of a struggle with the ornaments, cause my supplier doesn’t carry them anymore. So I’m looking to find a new supplier, and for the time being the reins on this set won’t have ornaments yet.

I don’t only love making tack, I also love to have it! For me a model horse doesn’t feel complete without some piece of tack on him or her. Same goes for my new Santa Fee Morgan “Celestial Smoak“. I’ve received him last week, and I just hád to make him tack. Now this goes for all my models, but for him I actually started a set today. It will be a full marathon harness with tan lining, but for now it’s only a bridle.

Here’s an update on the winged set. Me and Lynn decided that the bridle might look better with thinner straps on such a small traditional (cause as it turns out, Murdoc is really small!), so I’ve made some changes, and added the paint when it was done. Here are the splendid results!

Lynn has ordered this supercool english set for her Murdoc resin, with wings and colours and everything!!
I’ve started working on it yesterday, and I’m enjoying myself very much!

This portuguese set is for Kellye. It might look like it’s finished, but there’s gonna be a second bridle with it, as well as a breastcollar, crupper and leg protection.

The set is meant to fit Alborozo, Wyatt and several other horses.

Working on Gea’s set! The breastcollar and crupper are done, and the saddle halfway. Next up: bridle, xairel and the rest of the saddle!

Portuguese sets are really trendy at the moment! I’ve finished two portugeuse sets in May, and I’m planning to finish 3 more in the next couple of months!

Here progress pics of the black/blue saddle for Stacey.

This is a pleasure harness, which I’m  making to fit on the Make a Wish mold. The future owner of this harness (Tiffany) has a custom Make a Wish, with different manes (so glad about that! I really dislike her manes…) so I’m trying to make this harness fitting for her horse by making it on my own custom (which is still very much in progress, lol).

I’m making two English riding sets for Mindy: A black dressage set and a brown jumping set.I’ve started working on the jumping set a couple of days ago, and after many fails in dyeing the saddle parts, it finally worked out!
Now I’ll need to wait on some materials before I can really continue working on this saddle and the bridle and breastcollar for it. Though, I’ll be able to spend my time usefully by making all the buckles which I’ll need for this set, and by starting on the dressage set (I dó have all the materials I’ll need for that set).

I’m working on a Gaucho set for Yvonne. Gaucho’s are a sort of cowboys who ride on criollo horses, and use them to drive cattle from and to ranches. Criollo’s are also used for a sort of rodeo sport, I don’t know the details but I believe that they “break” the horses on shows, and for that purpose they use a simulair (maybe even the same) saddle as for the cattle driving.

The first pic is of a real saddle, and the other two are of the saddle which I’m creating. It still needs pannels and cushions, and a whole lot of other things 😛

Update: I’ve finished the saddle piece (the Bastos). The stirrups I made are authentic stirrups for a gaucho saddle. The yellow pad under the saddle is the Sudadera, and I’ll probably also make a Mandil (a slightly thicker pad that lays on top of the Sudadera, but under the Bastos). With the real thing, the horses seem to have a varying amount of pads under and on the saddle. It can range from 2 pads under it and a sheepskin on top, to 4 pads under it, one on top and a sheepskin on top of that.

To prevent the saddle from looking too bulky, I’ll go for the minimum amount of pads (two under it and a sheepskin on top).

Update: The set is almost finished! I’m just waiting to receive a piece of wool to make the top piece of the saddle (the sheepskin that is used to sit on) and then it’s done.DSC_0319DSC_0327 DSC_0333  DSC_0334

A rodeo set for Nitro

I’m planning to show this rodeo set on a live show this week, and after that I’ll probably sell it. The set will include a bucking strap, rigging and bronco halter. The halter will be made to fit Nitro’s head, and I’ll strategically spare out parts of the straps for the manes to make it look more realistic.

A show harness for a draft horse

I’m working on a show harness, made to fit Babette, a draft horse resin sculpted by Brigitte Eberl. The harness will be used to pull an English dump-cart with, but it can be adjusted to pull something without shafts, like a plow.

This is the first time that I’m making a harness with a collar, so it’s pretty exciting, but a bit scary too, haha.

Update: The breeching and saddle are done now! And a friend of mine pointed out to me that the collar is too small for the horse, so I’ll make a new one that fits the horse better. I’ll now go and work on the bridle, then I’ll probably make the collar and I’ll figure out a way to make the traces.

An endurance set for Lauriellen

This set is for Lauriellen, and it will be an endurance set. It will have  a saddle, a bridle, breastcollar, culeron and lots of (purple!) accessoires!

update: 12-01-2013A couple of weeks ago, I started with the tree of this saddle. Then I had no time to work on it for a long time, but yesterday I took up the work again, and today I’ve finished the saddle! Up next, the girth and bridle!
